The Hunger Games: Should I try to audition for Katniss in the movie? What are her qualities

The Hunger Games: Should I try to audition for Katniss in the movie? What are her qualities?
Katniss is the only character I've felt such a strong connection with. I think she would be my dream role. Before I read THG, my friend came up to me and said "you look like Katniss!" After I read the book, I got my mom to read it, and she kept on pointing out that the reactions/personality Katniss has, are like mine. I've either said/done the exact same things or had similar problems. I am currently 14 years old, but no one ever mistakes me for being younger. They think because I am so "mature", I am 15-23+. Even random strangers/high-schoolers think I am at least 16. By the time this movie is filmed, I should be at least 15. I'm 5'5, 125 lb, I have olive-toned skin, grey/hazel eyes, long dark hair. People never guess my ethnicity because I'm mixed. I'm part Asian, but people have guessed Native American/Indian. This senior at school called me "Pocahontas" when I had my hair braided and was wearing a dress/UGG boots. People think I'm really "intense" when they first meet me. I care about my family (I am protective of my little sister) but I don't always show it through my emotions. My mom is a nurse -she likes natural organic/herbal medicines and foods. My hobbies/interests are mainly singing, but I've been dabbling in theatre/film/acting. Theatre is sometimes harder, because I sometimes refuse to put on a show for people. If that makes any sense. I can do it, and I enjoy it. I feel like Katniss in that respect. As a freshman I was in a musical where I was a girl, Hunter, Cadet.. I could show what really goes on inside Katniss's head, and not just what the Capital shows. I do like pretty dresses (who doesn't) but I'm not a tomboy or girly-girl. I can't be sexy, and I couldn't handle people being "fake", so I often sat by myself during middle school. I can be fierce, and I have a sarcastic sense of humor. *I write music, play guitar/piano, make jewelry, do gymnastics, archery, fishing, paint/draw, swimming, camping, rock-climbing, gardening/planting flowers...I love the woods and nature, but I have nothing against hunting. When I was younger, I'd always hang out with guy friends and play survival games/climb trees in our forest :) --------(more)-------- *Sorry about this being so long. (oops!) I don't have an agent, and I don't live in LA (I live in the Northwest). I have close friends/family in Southern California who have said I could live with them, although my dad has been thinking about moving back down there. My dad's old friend/roommate is a producer who has made movies with Christina Ricci, Liam Neeson, Justin Long, and others. He tends to make more graphic "R" movies, but he likes comedy. --- I know it's easy to relate to a character when it's from their POV. I'd never really wanted a solo in choir before, but there was this one song I really connected with, and I ended up getting the part. I feel the same way about this. *WHAT CAN I DO TO PREPARE FOR A ROLE LIKE THIS AND IMPROVE MY CHANCES? I really wish I could meet Suzanne Collins. There are several questions I want to ask her.

You have to have some experience in acting and 'be' the character. Get rereading the books until you can actually feel like you are the character. You won't have a very good chance without an agent, but it's a start. (people tell me i look like Katniss too! Then they try to match me up with people in class that look like Peeta or Gale)

This should be in Theatre and Acting but i'll answer this anyways because I know a lot about this sort of stuff :) First of all, they aren't casting (yet. they maybe will later.) And even just in the Theatre and Acting section, i've seen tons of people that say they are perfect for that part. A lot of people think that and voiced their opinions, and probably even more people feel that way and just didn't voice their opinions. To become an actress, you need minimal experience. For example, become a familiar in your local theatre productions. If the city is big enough, try out for casting calls for commercials and tv shows locally. If you have experience, they are more likely to pick you. Just because you feel that you look like Katniss and act like her doesn't mean everyone thinks that. Look at Johnny Depp. In Alice In Wonderland, he went from having dark skin to being pasty white. It doesn't matter that people "say you are "Pocahontas" because that wouldn't totally matter. And it doesn't matter that you fee like Suzanne Collins based her character off of you, because its acting. I could be the most outgoing spoiled kid out there, and play a shy girl at school. Doesn't matter. Get some experience under your belt. As much as you can. Get a good reputation. In the meantime, look online to try to find the casting calls. good luck. -Kristin

welll why dont you try finding the svript but if not pick up the book and try rehearsing so you can get the part! and make sure your parents will let you audition and get the details of the audition of when it is and where it is and how you will get there what you will wear and how long you need to stay good luck! รข™¥ ~~~Ruthie Camden~~~

help! I want to go for acting/singing but my mom doesn't want me to

help! I want to go for acting/singing but my mom doesn't want me to.?
Okay I really want to get into acting and singing. My mom isn't that incouraging, she wants me to be a nurse like she is or something. But i really want to do something big with my life! she will let me take classes like "teen stage" and thats with a bunch of people where u act and sing but she wont let me audition for anything big. I'm in competitive dance and im pretty advanced for my age so that could help. But idk what should I do??? like how can i convince my mom to let me audition for something big, I know you get rejected alot in acting but that wont stop me! because when i have a dream i go after it. Im not the kind of person that gives up alot. please help! Also, my mom isn't the kind of person that chases her dreams. she's a nurse but yeah she doesn't plan to do anything really big with her life so yeah she doesn't seem like she wants me to do anything big with my life either. she wont even let me do a solo in dance because its not a team thing. like seriously, sometimes i feel like all she does is bring me down =[. please help!

I know how you feel. But acting/singing business is actually much harder than you imagine... the competition is tough, and you won't have stability that comes with technical jobs like nursing. You must be much more talented than others to make it in that industry... so your mom is just watching out for you. Don't you think it's a little harsh to say that your mom doesn't want to do anything big in her life? If you are not convinced, you will see what I mean once you start looking for jobs (whether you continue to pursue performing arts or decide to do nursing). If you have talent and you want to go for it, then go ahead. Your mom can't stop you even after you graduate and become independent. But it's really good to keep your options open just in case you change your mind... I speak from personal experience that I don't feel like sharing.
2 :
Give her a reason why you want to take lessons. Maybe you could tell her that acting helps you speak up for yourself and builds your self confidence, by acting in front of others. Think of other reasons too. You have to learn how to speak loudly in a play, and you will be able to speak louder in real life. Hope I helped! :]

I faced a similar problem, but don't look at it as your mother trying to hold you back or something. There are some fabulous actors/singers out there who will never become famous because the business really is tough. What she's trying to do is protect you, and I bet she's saying a whole lot about you "thinking about a real future" right now. She's not being unreasonable, but that doesn't mean that you can't come to a sort of midpoint between what you want and what she wants. When I graduated high school, all I wanted to do was act. I dropped out of college and started working in theater, but unfortunately unless you have a union card theater doesn't pay. Now I'm working towards an associates (and soon, a bachelors) degree, and acting on the side. I average about three plays a month (don't do what I'm doing, it's exhausting!), and though I don't make anything off of them unless it's dinner theater, I really enjoy myself while still working towards a teaching degree, which my mother approves of and that I like as well. Now, my mom likes to read my scripts with me, and comes to opening and closing night of every show I do. I'm sure that there are some local theaters in your town that you can audition for. Being able to dance is a HUGE boon, because even if you live in small town, USA there are typically a whole lot of musical shows being performed and they'll want people like you. As for acting-- there isn't anything you can't learn through experience. Audition for little parts and start to learn through the actors around you and soon you'll be just as good (if not better) and you can try out for those lead roles.
4 :
Audition for school plays or teen groups and then show her that you can be in shows and still keep your grades up. Wait until you're at least out of high school before you audition for anything big. Tell your mother how you feel about theater and that you wish to try it. If you compromise and are reasonable, you may get your way.
