Advice for a part time model

Advice for a part time model.?
Hi, I'm 19, a sophomore art/photography major in college, and putting myself through school with loans and some modeling gigs on the side. I've surprised myself with how many gigs I've been able to get so fast, and how I've managed to act/comport myself so professionally at such a young age. Its really boosted my confidence. But I am currently scheduled to do my first nude shoot. It is with a local artistic photographer whose work I know well enough that I DO trust that the shoot will be artistic/tasteful, that the images wont be sold except in his art gallery, etc etc. But I'm still scared out of my wits. I know posing for artistic nudes comes with the job description, and I know need to grow up and get used to being a model--which isn't always nothing but glamerous/fun shoots (just as a nurse can't choose not to change bedpans, models have to, well, model haha). But that doesn't make me any less freaked out. No guys have ever really seen me naked. Heck I've gotten freaked out just with having to change and be fitted for dresses in big ol busy rooms for fashion shoots etc.....so posing solo in the buff has me scared crapless. I know it isn't professional to back out on a gig last minute, and I know that gigs like this come with the territory, and I know I can trust this photographer.....so it isn't any of that. I just am scared. And want advice and perspective.

You can't take it back afterward, so you should make sure it is really what you want to do. There is no rule that says you have to take nude jobs. If you are going to turn down the job, don't wait till the last minute. Don't make a mess out of the photographer's schedule and cost him the money for crew, location, props, etc. unnecessarily. On the other hand if you do that job, you are going to find it is not as big a deal as you think it is going to be. I have worked with several first time nude models, and generally they are nervous, for about 10 minutes. After that they relax and have fun with it. Even though there is a robe to use in between shots, they usually forget about it after a bit. As long as everyone is behaving professionally and the model is not being pushed in to doing something she really doesn't want to do nervousness just doesn't last very long. How you feel right now is actually the hardest part.

Ask your mother.

I personally wouldn't do it if I were you. I know models as well, and have actually done some modelling myself. For one, it isn't worth it if you don't have the confidence. Secondly, those pictures may come back to haunt you in the future; I know, I know, its all "artistic" and everything but many people without that artistic sense would simply view it in a strange way. Tell your manager that you don't feel comfortable with these shoots, I'm sure he'll understand. As a PART-TIME model, you should only model for things you're comfortable with - that is, assuming that modelling is simply a side job & that you're not planning on pursuing it later on in the future. Ultimately, its your decision. I'm just telling you what I would do. Good luck!

If you have drawn or photographed nude models, just imagine that you are one of the ones who has been a subject for your art. Remember how calm they were about it. You probably know to bring a robe to wear when you are not being photographed.

It doesn't necessarily have to come with the job. You shouldn't back out completely just say that after considering it you don't feel comfortable posing full nude. He can probably give you something to cover up with a little. You may regret posing fully nude later. I believe that your (full) body should be kept only for your husband. It takes something away if countless other people have seen you naked. There have been models that don't pose nude. Explain how you feel about it to the photographer and he can probably give you something to partially cover up with. Hope everything goes well :
